Last engine and platform that ever got an significant engineering contribution from Oldsmobile engineerers instead of the corporate dictatorship. The Achieva actually won some races too.

I totally agree. I like the Quad 4 more than I should. The Achieva SCX and Quad 442 are actually kinda cool.
Also, check this out:

I saw a twin cam achieva at a junk yard and I started looking at and thinking it could be a decent little beater.
The quad 4 is also a handsome motor, I'd like it in a sprint car replica.

Was that the SOHC? Those were terrible.
There's a part of me that likes to think that Olds had some ingenuity bleeed through the hostile corporate structure of GM every now and then.

Not really a fan of the Quad 442 or the Alero, but I would LOVE to own an Achieva SCX one day. I've always thought the Achieva was a good looking little car, and the Quad-4 would vastly sweeten the deal.

The car in the video looks like fun.

They won the SCCA touring car world challenge for 2 or 3 years. It'd be fun to have one with a 5 speed and quad 4 to cross occasionally and surprise civivs with.

*Sigh* I knew it was too good to be true for the last real Oldsmobile to have ended on a decent note.

There's a difference in construction amongst the quad 4s - that "quad 4" was heavily detuned and was cheapened in construction. The high output quad-4s are high maintenance but also make shit-loads of power. The non high output quad-4 was just a load of shit.

The one I like the most is the Cutlass Calais 442 W-41
SCCA champ back in the day.

I think the achieva might be my favorite. I'm still not really too keen on having the Cutlass name on a n-body considering I was born and raised on 1971-1972 Cutlasses. The Achieva did good in the SCCA too.

Exactly. I've always considered them to be surprising cars, especially considering the fact that nobody knows about them. I'd love to see the looks on the ricer's face after a supposed "boring" car beat theirs.

190 HP in 1991, not bad.

I think it looks pretty clean compared to other 90s cars—it is conservative—but I secretely like it too much for me to consider it boring.
It has the right amount of straight lines and compound curves. It's not a box from the 80s and it isn't an enema from the 90s.

Naturally aspirated too. Pretty good for 2.3l. I think you could get it past 200 easily with a good exhaust and chip.
Their water pumps killed them all unfortunately.

That's impressive as hell. Even today's 2.4 Civic SI only makes 11 more horses than that. I had no idea about that engine.

The Quad-4, and the 3.4L DOHC V6 were the two engines that Fiero should have gotten at the factory, that it didn't.
Quad-4 may have had issues, but at least it wasn't an Iron Duke, or the barely-larger 2.8 V6.
